Papaw bought a brand new car for my Mamaw and even installed a security system in the house to keep her safe. At the time we all thought he was just doing these things cause he wanted to but we would realize later that it was all done for a reason. My Papaw even made sure that all the little projects around the home were taken care so my Mamaw would not have to deal with it. He had the porch resurfaced and even had my Mamaw get new furniture that she had wanted.
After he was sure that everything was taken care of my Papaw decided that it was his time to go. One day he told my Mamaw that he wanted to be taken to the doctor so that they could turn off the device on his heart that was keeping him alive. I will never forget the night my Mom called me here at school to tell me that he did not have much time left. I prayed that night that he would last until I got there the next morning so that I could say my final goodbye but when my dad showed up at my school 3 hours away from home without telling me the next morning...i knew that it was too late.
My Papaw died that morning with his wife of 55 years and three daughters by his side. He told them moments before not to worry and that he was going to heaven to be with his daughter that he had lost when she was only sixteen. He told them that he would see them again someday.
